Learn about City’s Cooling Centres and ways to stay safe in the heat at one of 4 open houses

The City of Burnaby will host four Cooling Centre open houses in May where you’ll learn more about the Cooling Centres, the City’s heat response plan and what you can do to keep yourself and your loved ones safe.

“I encourage everyone to come to one of our Cooling Centre open houses and learn what you need to know to be ready,” said Mayor Mike Hurley. “Safety is our top priority at the City and we constantly update our plans to ensure we help protect the public. But we all need to take part, and get the information we need to be prepared in case another extreme heat event comes.”

Open Houses:

  • Sunday, May 15:

    • 11:30 am–2 pm: Cameron Recreation Complex, 9523 Cameron St, Burnaby, BC

    • 5:30–8 pm: Confederation Seniors Centre, 4585 Albert St, Burnaby, BC

  • Sunday May 29:

    • 11:30 am–2 pm: Bonsor Recreation Complex, 6550 Bonsor Ave, Burnaby, BC

    • 5:30–8 pm: Edmonds Recreation Centre, 7433 Edmonds St, Burnaby, BC

At noon and at 6 pm at each open house there will be presentations from the City about our Extreme Heat Response Plan. Staff from Fraser Health will also share information about heat health awareness and alternate ways to keep cool at home.

You’ll also be able to learn about the City’s new public alert system, as well as programs offered by City and some of its community safety partners.

Free Life Maps Workshop

Free Life Maps Workshop

About this event
Ronnis has been creating LifeMaps for over 30 years and she is willing to
share her expertise with us!
LifeMaps are humorous, captivating, whimsical geographical drawings that
depict key people, places, personal traits, defining moments and fond
memories in the lives of the recipients.
This visual history becomes a treasured possession and family keepsake.
Recipients love their LifeMaps because a LifeMap honours, values and
celebrates them for being themselves. A LifeMap lets them know the
positive impact they have had on others and lets them see the wonderful
traits that are appreciated by their friends, family or colleagues.
As the saying goes, “A picture is worth a thousand words,” or as Rod Stewart
once sang, “Every picture tells a story.” On a LifeMap, every picture tells a
piece of that person’s story in an engaging way that calls up treasured
memories.
This workshop is hosted by ANORA Cremation, Burial & Events
